64" x 48". French, circa 1898. Stone lithograph. This impressive artwork was the brainchild of celebrated French advertising artist Jean Pal de Paleologue. Executed in circa 1898, just before the crash of the worldwide bicycle boom. Although Cleveland Cycles manufactured bicycles in Toledo, Ohio, they found a lucrative market in France. To the French market, this poster emphasized the firm's North American roots by depicting a native Indian riding regally in full headdress on a wooden Cleveland Cycle flanked by bowing admirers. Linen-backed with fine professional restoration to strengthen minor edge and border tears, along with a section of paper loss to the upper right border. Airbrush to border.
